I AM the Bread of Life – Part 3A

The image shows a piece of unleavened bread.  It is round, flat and makes me think of pizza.  I AM the Pizza of Life.  Probably not what Jesus had in mind.  Think Kerry.  Bread sustains life.  But there is more.  The Bread of Life statement comes shortly after the feeding of the 5,000 in John’s gospel.

I go back to the Old Testament to pick up more context.  There was the Showbread or the Bread of the Presence in the tabernacle.  Bread that was in the Presence of God.   Also, there was manna.  Manna, bread that came down from heaven to sustain the Children of Israel in the wilderness.  Bread that was to be gathered each day.  (Ahhh, maybe John put the I AM the Bread of Life statement in the context of the feeding of the 5,000 to get me thinking about manna.)

Yes, if I quit thinking about pizza and elevate the discussion to a spiritual level I can do the math.  Like the Showbread, Jesus was in the presence of God.  Like manna, Jesus came down from heaven.

John also starts by saying Jesus was the Word and the Word became flesh.

As I journey through life I feed daily on Jesus, the Word that came down from heaven.  This sustains me spiritually.

Jesus’ statement also gives deeper meaning to his actions during the Last Supper.

Part 3B.  Yes, I am stalling.  I should have the cleaned up version of my Day 3 mandala ready later today.
