Unseen realities – Resources for the Spirit

Bible Study

Christian mandalas.  The Christian Mandalas books are a suite of Bible Study curriculum for individuals and small groups. Creating unique drawings as you study Scripture, you deeply engage with the Word of God while using your sense of vision.  (Drawing level required: Pictionary/stick figures).

There are coloring books, coloring journals, and 10-week Bible study books.  The 10-week studies are suitable for individuals or small groups.

The Christian Mandalas 10-week studies are the most effective curriculum I have found for reading and reflecting on Scripture and engaging with the Holy Spirit.  Believers who have worked through the 10-week Christian Mandala studies are often surprised at the Spirit’s presence with them during the course.  Many of the images shown in this blog series started as basic drawings in one of the 10-week classes.

Recommended Books

Books written on the Holy Spirit are not as common as general Bible commentaries.  The keywords are Holy Spirit and Pneumatology.  Here are a few suggestions.

Introductory/newcomer

A W Tozer, How to be filled with the Holy Spirit.  The best introductory book on the Holy Spirit of which I am aware.  It is relatively inexpensive.

Intermediate

Green, Michael, I Believe in The Holy SpiritBroad overview. This book is the most readable text of the Intermediate books listed.

James Hamilton, God’s Indwelling Presence: The Holy Spirit in the Old and New TestamentsThe book focuses on the spiritual differences and similarities between Old Testament and New Testament believers.  Theological and interesting.

Lewis Sperry Chafer, Systematic Theology Vol VI Pneumatology.  A broad overview.

Frederick Dale Bruner, The Holy Spirit – Shy Member of the Trinity.

Advanced

St. Augustine of Hippo, On the Trinity. Excellent.  Some folks might find this work to be philosophical.
